I’ve been reading the book “The Anxious Generation” by Jonathan Haidt and it has fascinating insights into the cause of mental health issues especially in our youth today. He talks about 4 reforms that need to happen.
- No smart phones before high school
- No Social Media before 16
- Phone-free schools
- Far more unsupervised play and childhood independence
Because of the negative effects of technology on children’s development, he argues that these steps help reduce anxiety, depression, and distraction. They also promote independence, creativity, and stronger face-to-face social connections, allowing children to develop in healthier, more resilient ways.
For anyone looking for ways to manage technology with their children to promote better mental health, I highly recommend this book!
